Who we are
I'm Dylan House, a third-generation carpenter and the owner of House Custom Carpentry. We're licensed with the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors and fully insured. We've carried continuous general liability and workers' compensation coverage for about ten years, and I'll send a current certificate of insurance to anyone who asks.
We're a design/build firm, so design and construction stay under one roof. We work out of Pikeville and serve homeowners who want a clear plan and a builder who shows up. That means no big-box bath package and no rotating crews.
What a bathroom remodel with us includes
Every bathroom is different. A typical job covers some or all of this:
- Demo down to what's actually behind the walls and under the floor
- Shower or tub/shower rebuilds, tub-to-shower conversions, and the waterproofing under the tile

In a bathroom, the waterproofing behind the tile matters more than anything you can see. We plan that part as carefully as the finishes.
We design it before we build it
We draw your bathroom in house with Chief Architect, using 3D models and walk-throughs, so you can see the layout, the shower and the vanity wall before anything gets torn out. In a small room, a few inches decide whether a door swings clear, a vanity drawer opens, or a shower feels roomy. It's a lot cheaper to move a niche or a fixture on the screen than after the tile is set.

How the process works

Phone call with Dylan. We talk big picture about what's bugging you about the bathroom, your timeline and your budget.

At-home visit. Measurements, a look at the plumbing, floor and walls, and honest feedback on what's feasible.
- 3
Design and selections. 3D plans and walk-throughs in Chief Architect, plus tile, fixture and vanity selections, so the scope is real before it's priced.
- 4
Written lump-sum proposal. Fixed price for a defined scope, with a payment schedule set before you sign. If you change the scope after that, it goes on a signed change order before the work starts.

Build. We run the job with a lead carpenter approach. I'm on site for most of the work, and you can follow along on your Job Board, our private online customer portal in Site View, with progress photos, selections and your signed documents, any time from the Customer login on our site.

Why local design/build matters for bathrooms
A bathroom packs plumbing, electrical, ventilation, waterproofing, tile and finish carpentry into a small room, and every trade has to land in the right order. When the same licensed contractor who drew the plan is on site running the work, there's nobody to point fingers at. We measure the finished work against the NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines, so "good enough" has a written definition.

FAQ
Do you only do bathrooms?
No. Kitchens and baths are a big part of what we do, but we also build additions, decks and porches, exterior work and smaller carpentry repairs.
Can you turn my tub into a walk-in shower?
Usually, yes. Tub-to-shower conversions are common. What it takes depends on the drain location, the floor structure and the shower you want. We'll look at it on the site visit and show it to you in 3D.
How do I get a price?
Call or use the contact form. Start with the bathroom remodel cost ranges to see where your project might land. Then we'll visit, look at the room, and write a project-specific estimate.
Will the price change once you start?
Our go-to contract is a lump-sum fixed price for a defined scope. If you want to change the scope, we write it up on a change order and you sign it before that work starts. Bathrooms do hide things, like rotted subfloor or water damage behind old tile. If we find something like that, we'll let you know right away, and our contract spells out how that extra work is billed, so it's never a surprise on the final invoice. How long will I be without the bathroom?
A typical full bathroom takes about 3–4 weeks. It varies a lot, though. Some smaller jobs wrap up in about a week and a half. It depends on the scope and on lead times for tile, glass and fixtures. We'll give you a schedule before we start.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. When the work needs a permit, we pull it and schedule the inspections.
Are you licensed and insured in North Carolina?
Yes. NC General Contractor #82521, with general liability and workers' comp. Ask and I'll send a current COI.
